The Amazing Witherspoon's Amazing Circus Crew

(1993)

`In the amazing deep dark night, when no one was looking, no one was listening, no one was bothering at all, the Amazing Witherspoon came to town with his Amazing Circus Crew. They came to the Great Bodge, near to the Hulks, and they might have stayed unnoticed for quite some little while, had it not been for Jo’.

But Jo was too worried about her Dad, and what horrible Cripps was planning to do to their home. So it was only when she and the Wicked Kids joined forces that the amazing adventures really began....

I enjoyed the book a lot. My favourite character was Hieronymus, the brains behind the circus, who has 12 senses!
— Daniel Matlin (11), The Independent on Sunday
With a very eye-catching drawing on the front cover and amazing in the title twice this should be, well, pretty amazing. It doesn’t let you down.
— Southern Daily Echo
Reminiscent of Roald Dahl

Also good fun is the increasingly appreciated Andrew Gibson’s The Amazing Witherspoon’s Amazing Circus Crew. The wonderful black-and-white illustrations by Chris Riddell add magic to a tale for our time, which, nevertheless, has the imaginative energy to be a classic.
— The Sunday Times
An exuberantly told and imagined story full of exotic characters and grand action. Jo and her eviction from the Hulks and the Bodge by the rich Jonty Worsthorne Cripps. But the wonderful Circus and its crew come to the rescue. With the help of some more extravagantly imagined characters, they defeat Cripps and preserve The Bodge in a marvellous finale of action.
